HomeRED Alert - Oregon
February 2011

Ready, set, go!  2/15/11

Oregon members and sponsors,

Recently, we notified you that a highly restrictive practice act had been introduced in your state.  HB 2491 has been forwarded to the House Business and Labor Committee.  If passed, this bill will be the most restrictive and anti-competitive design licensing law in the country.  This bill will license the profession and only allow "non-registered" designers (those who are not NCIDQ-certified) to ONLY work in limited spaces.

We have timed our letter-writing campaign for maximum effect.  The proponents of the bill have scheduled a "lobby day" in which they will converge on the capitol on February 21.  NOW is the time to make your opposition known!  Providing legislators with the true information and our overwhelming opposition will ensure that legislators will not believe the proponent's rhetoric, scare tactics, and misinformation.

Every voice counts!  YOU can convince the Committee that this bill should not be moved forward. They will be deciding whether to hear HB 2491 to limit the full practice of interior design to those who have met the qualifications that ASID and its Oregon puppet organization, the Interior Design Coalition of Oregon, have determined are necessary to protect the public.  Don't let them license you out of business!

Write (or call) each member of the House Business and Labor Committee and your own legislator today.  You can use the sample letter below, or if you prefer, a shorter and more personal version.

Protect your FUTURE!

Oregon design community:

In response to the efforts by the Oregon Interior Design Coalition to impose a restrictive, anti-competitive, and totally unnecessary practice law, an informational meeting will be held on November 9th to help prepare the interior design grassroots for the 2011 legislative session so YOU can continue to compete in the fair and open market.
