March 2011
On March 11, Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour signed title act bill HB 1096 into law.
Look out. . . a practice act cannot be far behind.

Title Act Moves to House 2/4/11
On February 3rd, the Mississippi bill to regulate interior design through a title act -- a first step in the incremental objective to enact full occupational licensing -- passed the full Mississippi Senate.
As you know, we were able to derail the practice act last year, but to-date, we have had no support from the design community to opposed this camel's-nose-under-the tent regulatory scheme.
If you are interested in keeping Mississippi free from arbitrary governmental intervention, please join IDPC. Our new membership dues are drastically reduced so that EVERYONE, no matter what your financial situation, can afford to join our crusade.
Don't think others will do it for you. Your voice is important. Membership in IDPC provides you with all the tools you need to protect your rights without losing your money, time, or sanity.
What you do today could directly impact what you are permitted to do tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Interior Design Protection Council

Heads Up! 1/28/11
Mississippi design community:
A title act has been introduced in the legislature and has already passed the Senate Committee on Business and Financial Institutions.
If allowed to pass, this bill will give NCIDQ-certified designers a state-sanctified, unearned advantage over you, reduce you to a second-class citizen, and place you at an unfair marketing disadvantage.
IDPC members and sponsors -- you will shortly be receiving more information, bill analysis, talking points, legislator contact information, sample letters and all other updates pertinent to defeating this bill.

Bill Moves to Governor
Yesterday, HB 1096.the interior design title act which passed the House and Senate moved on to Governor Haley Barbour to be signed into law.
This is your last chance to stop the ASID-led Cartel from getting their foot in Mississippi's door. Please write to the Governor and request that he VETO this bill!
- Provides no genuine public benefits
- Places you at an unfair competitive disadvantage
- Is just a Trojan horse to establish a regulatory scheme; they really want the practice act that we defeated last year.
- Is a frivilous waste of taxpayer time and money.
With the already difficult economy, the legislature should enact no new laws which would make it even more difficult for their citizens to compete in the fair and free market unless the health, safety and welfare of the public is jeopardized without the law. No such evidence exists here.
